WEST INDIAN SOCIAL CLUB TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL SUPERBOWL PARTY FEBRUARY 7TH, 2016
By Ogewu Agbese
People were on the edge of their seat. With the Seattle Seahawks trailing by 3 points with less than a minute to go in the Superbowl, everyone knew that ball was going to go to the best running back in the league Marshawn Lynch. With the ball on their opponent’s one yard line, a simple running play would all but secure the Seahawks 2nd straight Superbowl victory. Then, the unthinkable happened: Seattle decided to call a pass play! As the ball sailed toward the receiver, an undrafted free agent for the Patriots made his first interception of the season count! The Patriots had come up with the big play at the right time, and quarterback Tom Brady was able to hoist his 4th Superbowl trophy.
And this was all seen at the West Indian Social Club’s First Annual Superbowl Party.
The game was shown on the club’s new projector and the 120-inch screen made you feel like you were right there at the game. Almost as popular as the game was the Touchdown Special: a basket of your choice of chicken wings and a large helping of fries. Some patrons were so enthralled with Touchdown Special, they decided to get one for each half!
This year the Superbowl celebrates its 50th running. The big game has featured many memorable sports moments over the first 49 installments.
No stranger to the festivities of the Superbowl, Payton Manning will be ap
pearing in his fourth league championship game. He will try to match his younger brother Eli’s win total, who has won two Superbowl victories in his two appearances. He will also try to lead the Denver Broncos to their first
Superbowl victory since his boss, General Manager John Elway, lead the Broncos to
their second Superbowl victory in Superbowl XXXIII.
On the other side, newcomer Cam Newton knows what it’s like to lead a team to victory on the big stage as he was able to take his Auburn Tigers to a College Football National Championship in 2011, before being drafted by the Carolina Panthers. The Carolina Panthers were considered one of the best teams all season as they only had one loss on their way to the Superbowl.
With two great quarterbacks leading their teams, the game will be one you won’t want to miss. If you’re going to watch the game, there’s no better place to watch it, than at the West Indian Social Club.
