2026 Dermoth Hamilton Brown – Celebration of Life SERVICE
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Past President, Chairman of the Trustee Board, and Life Member of the West Indian Social Club of Hartford, Inc., Dermoth Hamilton Brown, a visionary leader whose 88 years were marked by service, scholarship, and unwavering dedication to the West Indian and Greater Hartford communities. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, and later building a life of purpose in Connecticut, Mr. Brown was a trailblazer whose work spanned education, cultural advocacy, economic development, and community empowerment. From his foundational roles in the West Indian Social Club, the West Indian Foundation, NAJASO, and the International Foundation for the Exoneration of Marcus Garvey, to his decades-long leadership with the Artists Collective, he championed opportunities for youth, advanced Caribbean heritage, and helped shape institutions that will impact generations. A devoted husband of 60 years, loving father, grandfather, and mentor, Dermoth Brown leaves behind a powerful legacy of leadership, compassion, and cultural pride—one that continues to uplift the community he served so faithfully.
The West Indian Social Club is experiencing a very challenging year as we continue to mourn the loss of several beloved members and friends. Their impact, spirit, and contributions remain deeply woven into the fabric of our community. As we honor their memories, we also stand together—supporting one another, celebrating their legacy, and carrying forward the strength and unity they helped build.
