Hartford, CT – On Sunday, February 19th 2023, The West Indian Social Club of Hartford in collaboration with Wheeler Health presented the second mental health & wellness seminar entitled: Seasonal Depression & Food.

The afternoon began with yoga by Rudi Yoga Academy. The Instructor’s name was Esan and Esan did not hold back, whatsoever. She tested the audience of 20 and challenged them to stretch harder and breathe longer with every move.. At the end of this yoga session, the crowd felt robust, relaxed and ready to learn.

Participants remained on their yoga mats while they were provided with journals and pens as the afternoon progressed into an insightful journaling session. Information on how to utilize the power of ‘writing down thoughts’ and how it can positively impact your life were shared; along with personal testimonies of how journaling has changed the lives of others, were also discussed.

Dr. Sean Robotham then arrived and presented a fact-based, fun and enthusiastic presentation on the role that nutrition plays in Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D) and depression. As soon as he began speaking, it was clear that this was a passionate doctor: He presented better eating and exercise options, discussed various over the counter vitamins and herbs for daily intake and talked about his personal experience with S.A.D and what he does every day to combat it. It was an extremely rich and decadent presentation – One that had the audience conversing and then collecting Dr. Robotham’s business cards for follow up.

The series moderator; Internal medicine doctor, Dr. Gary A. Rhule, M.D. then wrapped up the afternoon by giving participants a chance to win a $25 gift card by answering trivia questions, based upon Dr. Robotham’s presentation.

“It was an empowering, fun and engaging time” – Dionne

“I saw this on Eventbrite.com and booked immediately. I am so glad that I came. We had a very nice time” – Lindsay

“I’m signing up for yoga and buying a journal right NOW. That was really good!” – Nicky

Join us for the next event on March 19th where Dr. Sweets Wilson-Williams explains the different types of depression. Yoga with Rudi Yoga Academy and Journaling with Sebbii Sossa. Until then, remember these words from Bruce Lee: “Your mind is like this water, my friend. When it is agitated, it becomes difficult to see. But if you allow it to settle, the answer becomes clear”
